With over 1,000 people killed in just a few months, the United Nations is urging the international community to act before it’s too late.

The UN is warning that Haiti is teetering on the brink of total collapse. Armed gangs are rapidly expanding their control in the capital, Port-au-Prince, now targeting areas like Delmas and Pétion-Ville. In just a short span, more than 1,000 people have been killed, nearly 400 injured, and tens of thousands newly displaced.

UN Special Representative María Isabel Salvador describes the situation as a coordinated campaign by criminal groups aiming to cripple the state. “We are approaching a point of no return,” she warned.

Authorities are trying to hold the line, but they lack the necessary resources. The UN-authorized Multinational Security Support Mission, led by Kenya, has yet to reach the strength required to make a significant impact.

At the same time, Haiti’s health and education systems are crumbling. Over 900 schools and 39 health clinics have shut down, while humanitarian aid is being strained by roadblocks and funding shortages. The UN emphasizes that without swift and substantial international support, Haiti risks total collapse.
