Donald Trump has launched a sharp attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of fueling continued bloodshed by refusing to consider a peace deal that would allow Russia to retain control of Crimea. According to Trump, the war could end quickly — if Zelenskyy accepted the realities on the ground.

“There’s nothing to talk about. It’s our land,” Zelenskyy said Tuesday, just ahead of peace talks in London. The statement prompted Trump to call the stance “very harmful,” writing on social media: “If he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago?”

Disagreement Over the Path to Peace

A U.S. proposal, introduced in Paris, suggests both sides would need to give up some territory. Vice President JD Vance called it “a very fair proposal” and warned that the U.S. might pull out of negotiations if there’s no agreement soon.

As political tensions mount, violence on the ground continues. A Russian drone strike on a bus in Marganets killed nine people and injured over 40. Meanwhile, Kyiv suffered one of its deadliest missile attacks in the war, with at least nine killed and more than 60 injured.

Zelenskyy’s delegation in London maintains Ukraine’s commitment to peace — but only under a full and unconditional ceasefire.

“Harder Than the Russians”

Trump, who may meet with Putin later this year, hinted that Zelenskyy is the more difficult party to work with: “It’s harder to deal with Zelenskyy than the Russians.”

With front lines frozen and peace still out of reach, Ukraine’s nightmare continues — and the cost keeps rising.
