Microsoft has announced price increases for its Xbox consoles and certain games in multiple regions. The move comes shortly after Sony raised the cost of several PlayStation 5 models.

According to Microsoft, the decision is driven by “market conditions” and the rising cost of game development.

Significant Price Hikes on Consoles and Games

In the U.S., the Xbox Series S will jump from $299.99 to $379.99—a 27% increase. The premium Series X Galaxy Black model will climb from $599.99 to $729.99. New games from Microsoft-owned studios will also see price hikes, going from $69.99 to $79.99.

In Europe, the Series S will rise to €349.99, while in Australia, it will retail for $549 AUD.

Tariffs and Global Pressures in the Background

While Microsoft doesn’t mention it outright, the changes follow the reinstatement of high tariffs by former President Trump—up to 145% on certain goods from China, where Xbox consoles are assembled. Sony and Nintendo are feeling the impact as well: Sony raised PlayStation 5 prices in Europe, while Nintendo has delayed pre-orders for the upcoming Switch 2.

Microsoft stated: “We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration.”

Gamers Will Feel the Impact

Since their 2020 launch, the Xbox Series S and X have sold an estimated 30 million units. But with tariffs looming and higher prices on the table, the industry faces growing uncertainty—and so do players’ wallets.
