Chinese Fighter Jets Create New Tensions Between Pakistan and India
Luftkamp med geopolitisk eftersmag
Pakistan has officially announced that its air force has shot down five Indian fighter jets during an escalation of the conflict in the Kashmir region.
What’s striking is not just the number of downed aircraft, but also the technology involved. According to Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the operation was carried out using Chinese-made J-10C fighter jets. “Our fighter jets, the J-10C, shot down three French Rafales and two other aircraft” Dar stated.
He added that a Chinese delegation, led by the ambassador, arrived in Islamabad before dawn to be briefed on the incident.
Silence and Intelligence Doubts
India has yet to confirm the loss of the five jets, and international media such as CNN have not been able to verify Pakistan’s claims.
However, an anonymous French intelligence officer has confirmed that one Rafale has been shot down, and French authorities are investigating whether additional aircraft have been lost.

Chinese Technology at the Forefront
The J-10C is a modern, single-engine fighter jet developed by the state-owned Chinese manufacturer Avic Chengdu Aircraft.
It is classified as a 4.5-generation aircraft and is considered a strong counterpart to the American F-16.
According to SIPRI, 81% of Pakistan’s arms imports over the past five years have come from China.
The rapid response from the Chinese embassy in Islamabad underscores the close military—and apparently also diplomatic—cooperation between the two countries.
Market Reaction
Following Pakistan’s announcement, Avic Chengdu Aircraft saw a significant surge in its stock value on the Shenzhen stock exchange.
By Thursday, the stock had closed 40% higher than on Tuesday, signaling investor confidence in the growing importance of the J-10C in modern aerial warfare.
China’s Call for De-escalation
While Pakistan has spoken confidently about its actions, China has taken a more measured stance. A spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry said he was not aware of the details of the situation but emphasized the desire for de-escalation.
At the same time, China expressed “regret over India’s military actions.”
A Multi-Layered Conflict
The conflict is a clear example of how military technology, diplomacy, and strategic alliances intersect.
China’s role as both an arms supplier and a voice for peace presents a dual image in a region where the balance of power is already fragile.
