An apparently innocent beach photo has placed former FBI Director James Comey in the eye of a political storm.

The post was swiftly deleted following massive criticism, but not before it caught the attention of the White House, Congress, and Trump’s supporters.

The number ’86’ is often used as slang for eliminating someone, while ’47’ is interpreted by many as a reference to the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Comey: ‘I Didn’t Know the Meaning’

Comey later attempted to defuse the situation by explaining that he had merely shared a beach photo: ‘I was unaware that some associate these numbers with violence. It did not occur to me. I denounce all violence and therefore removed the post,’ he wrote in a follow-up post.

However, his explanation has not quelled the anger among Trump’s allies.

Representative Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), known for his unwavering support for Trump, went as far as to demand Comey’s arrest.

Meanwhile, the White House has called the post ‘deeply concerning.’

Secret Service Steps In

According to Fox News, the Secret Service has launched an investigation and will be questioning Comey. The FBI, which Comey once led, has not publicly commented on the case, but newly appointed FBI Director Kash Patel confirms that the bureau is cooperating with the Secret Service.

‘We are in contact with the Secret Service and providing necessary support,’ Patel wrote on the social media platform X.
