Swedish Fighter Jets in Action – On the Country Roads

This week, Gripen fighter jets and Hercules transport aircraft tore through the skies to land — not on a military base, but on ordinary Swedish country roads.

It all took place near Lidköping in Västergötland, where the Swedish Air Force carried out one of its most eye-catching exercises to date.

Turning Roads Into War Zones

The goal of the exercise was to train for scenarios in which Sweden’s airports have been knocked out following a hostile attack.

In such situations, aircraft must be able to reroute to alternative locations — including roadways.
