Trump Tariffs Impact Consumers: Here Are the Companies Raising Prices
The introduction of President Donald Trump’s new tariffs is expected to unleash a wave of price increases that will hit American consumers directly in their wallets.
A base tariff of 10% on most imported goods and a whopping 30% on Chinese products has prompted several major companies to announce impending price hikes.
Details from Retail
Walmart, the world’s largest retail chain, has already confirmed that prices will rise throughout May and “more significantly” in June. “We will do our best to keep prices down, but the tariffs are so high that we cannot absorb the impact,” said CEO Douglas McMillon during an investors meeting.
Electronics giant Best Buy conveyed a similar message, pointing out that their suppliers are passing on the increased costs down the line.

Toys, Clothing, and Technology Hit
Mattel, known for Barbie and Hot Wheels, has announced that up to half of its products will cost over 20 dollars in the future.
CEO Ynon Kreiz called for a global zero-tariff policy on toys. Meanwhile, Trump has threatened to impose a 100% tariff on Mattel if they do not move production to the USA.
In the clothing sector, both Shein and Temu, two Chinese online giants, have had to raise prices.
This is due to the lifting of the so-called “de minimis” exemption, which previously protected low-value goods from tariffs. A swimsuit that cost $4.39 on Shein on April 24 was $8.39 the day after.
Auto and Household Sectors Follow Suit
Trump’s 25% tariff on imported cars and parts is also affecting automakers.
Ford has announced price increases of up to 1.5% in the second half of 2025.
Subaru reports “price adjustments” to cover the rising costs.
In the household market, Procter & Gamble is contemplating price changes for brands like Tide, Pampers, and Charmin. “Tariffs are inflationary and will be reflected in retail prices,” CEO Jon Moeller told CNBC.
Stanley Black & Decker has also already raised prices and plans another round later in the year.
An Endless Spiral?
While the tariffs are officially implemented to protect American production, business reactions suggest the burden ultimately falls on the consumer.
Adidas notes that “the uncertainty of tariffs will inevitably lead to price increases“.
As companies are forced to react to increased costs, a chain reaction ensues, pushing prices upward across the market.
The result is a necessary but onerous adjustment in consumption patterns, where daily purchases are becoming a more expensive affair for many Americans.
