Polish Typhoon Jets Scrambled: NATO Responds to Russian Air Threat
Fighter jets from the Malbork base were activated on Monday in response to Russian air activity near NATO’s eastern flank.
Fighter jets from the Malbork base were activated on Monday in response to Russian air activity near NATO’s eastern flank.
While Russian missiles and drones rained down over Ukraine for the second consecutive night, it wasn’t only Kyiv and Odesa that heard the air alarms. In Poland, systems also went into alert mode.
According to the Polish armed forces, fighter jets were dispatched in response to “renewed activity from the Russian Federation’s long-distance aviation, conducting missile attacks against targets in Ukraine.”
The British-made fighter jet, the Eurofighter Typhoon, stationed in the Polish town of Malbork, was quickly deployed as part of NATO’s Air Policing mission.
The Polish forces emphasized that “all necessary procedures to secure Polish airspace are activated,” and that they are “monitoring the situation with full readiness for an immediate response.”
Massive Attack on Ukraine
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired a total of 355 drones and nine cruise missiles overnight.
It was the second consecutive night of large-scale attacks, where at least 13 people lost their lives on the previous evening. The attacks were widespread: from Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk to Kyiv and Odesa.
The Russian Ministry of Defense simultaneously reported that it had shot down over 220 Ukrainian drones and several HIMARS rockets in a comprehensive air defense action.

Political Reaction and Future Course
The reaction from NATO and Poland is yet another signal of the unbearable tension along the alliance’s eastern borders.
President Donald Trump, who in his second term has attempted to end the conflict, stated on Sunday: “Putin has gone completely off track. Missiles and drones are being fired at civilian targets without any reason.”
Trump also warned that if Russia tries to take over all of Ukraine, “it will destabilize Russia from within.” He also criticized Ukraine’s President Zelensky for his rhetoric, calling the conflict “the war of Zelensky, Putin, and Biden.”
NATO Monitors Airspace
The activation of the Polish Typhoon jets is a reminder that the threat is not only present in Ukraine, but also close to NATO’s own borders.
NATO’s Air Policing mission functions as part of the alliance’s permanent presence in the east and aims to ensure that any airspace violations are immediately countered.

The effort was triggered this time by Russian flight operations, but the alertness continues.
With an increasing number of attacks on Ukrainian cities and growing tensions between Moscow and NATO, the Polish Air Force stands ready to face any new threat in the air.
