Attempted Murder with Molotov Cocktail Amid Protest Chaos: ‘We Have the Situation Under Control’
The LAPD maintains control despite violent clashes and the firing of 600 rubber bullets.
Los Angeles is on fire—figuratively speaking. The city streets have been transformed into a battleground as demonstrators and police clash violently in the wake of escalating protests against immigration measures and federal intervention. Amid the turmoil, one arrest has resulted in charges of attempted murder with a Molotov cocktail—a charge that has sent shockwaves through the already tense community.
Violence, Tears, and Tear Gas
The LAPD has confirmed that over the weekend, 50 arrests have been made, several related to serious acts of violence. Twenty-nine people were detained on Saturday for failing to comply with orders to leave the area, while an additional 21 were arrested on Sunday. According to the police, the charges include attempted murder and assault with deadly weapons against officers.
In order to control the violent scenes, officers have fired over 600 non-lethal rounds and used tear gas against what they describe as a ‘hostile crowd.’ Among those affected was an Australian journalist covering the events on-site.

Trump Sends Troops—But the City Pushes Back
Despite the chaotic scenes, the Los Angeles Police Department has rejected the need for federal assistance. This statement comes in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to send in 700 Marines and an additional 2,000 National Guardsmen to the city.
‘The potential arrival of federal military forces—without clear coordination—poses a substantial logistical and operational challenge,’ stated Police Chief Jim McDonnell. ‘LAPD and our partners have decades of experience in handling large demonstrations, and we remain confident in our capability to do so professionally and effectively.’
Governor and Mayor Issue Warnings
Governor Gavin Newsom calls Trump’s military presence ‘illegal,’ suggesting it has exacerbated the situation. In response, he has mobilized an additional 800 state and local police officers to the city.
LA’s Mayor Karen Bass expresses her support for Newsom: ‘While Washington stages chaos, LAPD and local police continue to respond effectively.’
Coordinated Resistance and Injuries
Police also report that some protest groups have been using handheld radios to coordinate their movements and avoid arrests. Five officers and five police horses have received minor injuries during the unrest.
Despite scenes of disorder and unruly elements, local authorities stand firm: Los Angeles will not rely on military force to maintain peace and order.
