Paramount Global has decided to pay $16 million to settle President Donald Trump’s high-profile lawsuit against CBS News regarding the editing of a ’60 Minutes’ segment.

The case, which has caused internal turmoil at CBS and resulted in the departure of several high-ranking employees, is thus closed without a public apology from the media group.

The agreement stipulates that the amount will be directed to Donald Trump’s forthcoming presidential library, with none of the funds going directly to Trump himself.

Paramount states that ‘the settlement includes a release of all claims related to CBS’ reporting up to the date of the agreement‘. This means Trump can no longer file any more lawsuits on the same matter.

The settlement follows two months of intensive negotiations led by an independent mediator.

Paramount has also agreed that ’60 Minutes’ will in the future publish transcripts of interviews with presidential candidates after airing, albeit with the possibility of omitting certain information due to national security concerns.

Trump’s legal team views the agreement as a significant victory.

A spokesperson stated: ‘President Trump has once again demonstrated that no one gets away with misleading the American public. CBS and Paramount Global recognized the strength of this historic case and had no choice but to settle.’

The case originated last fall when CBS was accused by Trump of intentionally editing an interview with then Vice President Kamala Harris to bolster her election prospects.

Although CBS maintains that the edits were routine, the case has created a number of political and financial challenges for Paramount.

Paramount’s decision to settle is largely driven by a desire to ensure that a planned sale to Skydance Media can proceed without further political complications.

The acquisition still awaits approval from the Trump-appointed FCC chair, who has previously raised concerns about the editing of the Harris interview.

With the settlement, Paramount aims to draw a line under the matter and create stability for the company’s future.
