Trump Threatens Baltimore: “I’ll Send in the Troops”
In a furious post, Donald Trump lashes out at Governor Wes Moore and threatens to send troops to Baltimore – despite significant declines in crime rates.
A Security Walk That Exploded
It began as a relatively peaceful invitation. Maryland’s Governor Wes Moore had invited Donald Trump to take part in a safety walk in Baltimore to showcase the city’s positive developments. But Trump’s response on Truth Social transformed the request into a political earthquake.
“As president, I’d prefer he clean up this crime catastrophe before I go there for any ‘walk’,” Trump wrote, adding: “But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in LA, I’ll send in the ‘troops’—just like we do in DC—and quickly clean up the crime.”
The threat came on the heels of Trump’s previous military interventions in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, where he deployed the National Guard as a show of force against crime.
Moore Strikes Back with Sarcasm
Governor Wes Moore responded promptly on X (formerly Twitter): “President Bone Spurs will do anything to avoid a walk—even if it means more lies about the progress we’ve made in Maryland.”
“Hey Donald, we can get you a golf cart if that makes it easier. Just let my team know,” he added.
Behind the jabs and rhetoric lies a real battle over perceptions of safety in America’s major cities—and who gets the credit for improvements.
A Battle of Fact and Fiction
Trump’s threat comes despite crime declining in Baltimore. According to Moore, homicides are down 22 percent and non-fatal shootings are down 19 percent in the first half of the year.
“We’re on track for the lowest number of homicides in Baltimore since we began recording crime statistics,” Moore wrote in his original letter.
Trump dismissed the numbers and accused Moore of “fudging” the statistics, without offering any evidence.
A Campaign Weapon in Full Effect
Trump has made a habit of using the National Guard as a political tool against Democrat-led cities. He has previously stated that Chicago, New York, and Oakland are also on his list: “We’re taking back our capital… and then we’ll look at the other cities.”
It’s not just about crime—but about framing himself as the only one willing to take on what he calls “Democratic disasters.” In Trump’s political theater, the troops become a symbol of action—and a trial by fire for city leadership.
