When Donald Trump opened the doors to his Trump National Golf Club in Potomac Falls, Virginia, it wasn’t just for anyone.

The invitation to the black-tie gala was reserved for the most generous investors in his own cryptocurrency, $TRUMP.

The 220 attendees had collectively purchased tokens worth no less than $148 million. It looked like an evening marked by luxury – but reality was different.

Disappointed Guests and Half-Hearted Hosting

Among the attendees were celebrities like Lamar Odom and industry professionals from the crypto scene.

However, it was the 25-year-old investor Nicholas Pinto who put words to many guests’ experiences, according to CNBC: “The food was terrible. I only got water – and my glass was only filled once.”

Trump himself appeared only for 23 minutes, delivered a brief speech about old crypto themes, and left the party by helicopter without greeting the majority of his own supporters.

Security was lax, phones weren’t confiscated, and the expected exclusivity was noticeably absent.

Even though Richard Mille watches glittered on many wrists, the mood was flat. “People sat checking their phones during dinner to see if the price of $TRUMP had fallen,” Pinto reported.

Dark Clouds Over Washington

Outside the golf club, around 100 protesters gathered with signs like “Crypto Corruption” and “Trump is a Traitor.”

Senator Jeff Merkley and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer used the occasion to launch a new legislative proposal: the End Crypto Corruption Act, aimed at preventing presidents and top officials from profiting off cryptocurrencies while in office.

At the same time, critical questions were raised on Capitol Hill, where representatives are trying to establish a bipartisan agreement on stablecoin regulation.

According to Congressman French Hill, Trump’s involvement in cryptocurrency “is a distraction from the good work we are trying to do.”

From Hype to Hard Facts

The party was supposed to celebrate a burgeoning economic niche. Instead, it became a symbol of unparalleled vanity and a market reaction that speaks volumes: hours after the party, the $TRUMP token plummeted by 16%.
