Israel Escalates the War: Over 100 Killed in Gaza in One Night
A new Israeli offensive has struck hard in both the north and south, with tent camps and homes among the targets.
A new Israeli offensive has led to deadly attacks across the Gaza Strip.
According to local hospitals and rescue personnel, at least 103 people lost their lives overnight into Sunday and the following morning. The bombings struck a wide area, from northern refugee camps to tents and homes in southern Gaza.
Tent Camps and Homes Among the Targets
In the southern city of Khan Younis, at least 48 people were killed, including women and children, as Israeli airstrikes hit homes and temporary tent camps where displaced families had sought shelter.
Nasser Hospital reported that over half of the victims were women and children.
In the northern part of Gaza, where parts of the Jabaliya camp have already been leveled by previous bombardments, nine members of the same family were killed when their house was hit.
Another residence in the same area was also struck, killing an additional ten people, including seven children and a woman.

“Gideon’s Chariots”: A New Phase of the War
The attacks mark the beginning of a new Israeli offensive, dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots,” which, according to the Israeli government, is intended to pressure Hamas into agreeing to a temporary ceasefire on Israel’s terms.
According to Israel’s plan, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are to be displaced southward, while Israel tightens its control over the areas and the distribution of humanitarian aid.
Hamas, on the other hand, has stated that a new agreement will only be considered if Israel fully withdraws its troops from Gaza and shows a willingness to end the war.
Deepening Humanitarian Crisis
Since Israel broke the eight-week ceasefire in March, the situation in Gaza has drastically worsened. Imports of food, medicine, and fuel have been halted, and the UN has warned of an increasing risk of famine.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, over 53,000 people have been killed in the conflict since October 2023.
“We are struggling to record all the dead due to the condition of the bodies being brought in,” staff at Nasser Hospital said.
Rising Regional Tensions
The conflict has also drawn in other actors. Early Sunday, the Israeli military reported intercepting a missile launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The missile was aimed at the airport near Tel Aviv, where sirens sounded in several cities.
“The operation achieved its goal and sent millions of Zionists into shelters,” said Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree.
Israel is not part of the recent American agreement aimed at curbing Houthi attacks on U.S. ships in the Red Sea.
On Friday, Israel responded with its eighth airstrike on Yemen since October 2023.
The culmination of the war and the most recent deaths underscore the unbearable pressure the population in Gaza is living under. At the same time, the conflict threatens to spread further in the region as new actors become involved in the war zone.
