Drama Amid Jubilation

Shortly after 6:00 PM local time, Water Street, just a stone’s throw from the parade bus and main road Strand, became the epicenter of a violent incident.

According to Merseyside Police, a 53-year-old local man was arrested after a car struck several people in the crowd.

The police have yet to confirm whether the arrested individual was the driver of the vehicle.

“All we could hear were screams and screams. It was so loud. People sounded desperate, and we saw the car drive straight into people,” Natasha Rinaldi told the BBC, who witnessed the entire event from a friend’s apartment.

Witnesses: ‘Horrifying Scenes’

Multiple eyewitnesses describe how the car emerged from the side of an ambulance and struck the gathered crowd without warning.

A father, Matt Cole, grabbed his daughter and leaped away at the last moment. “It was so close. People flew onto the car’s hood, and then the car sped off while people tried to stop it,” he said.

An ambulance, already on site, unintentionally blocked the car’s path forward, forcing the vehicle to stop.

The police have set up tents and a wide cordon in central Liverpool while the investigation continues.

Reactions from Clubs and Politicians

Both Liverpool FC and Everton FC have released statements of sympathy. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this severe incident,” said Liverpool FC, which is also in direct contact with the police.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called the incident “horrific” and praised the emergency response teams for their rapid reaction.

Merseyside Police urges residents not to speculate on motives and encourages the submission of relevant information and footage.

An Emotional Day in Liverpool

The celebration of the city’s beloved football club was abruptly interrupted, and the streets, which moments earlier were filled with song and confetti, are now cleared and marked by cleanup and investigation.

Water Street, the site of the incident, stands as a stark reminder of how quickly joy can turn to tragedy.

The police are expected to provide an update later in the evening. Until then, the city remains heavy-hearted, its people unified in solidarity with those affected.
