Trade War Flares Up Again: EU in Trump’s Line of Fire
Donald Trump’s trade policy is revived with demands for tariff reductions and rejection of digital taxes.
The USA and the EU find themselves once again in a heated trade dispute, where old conflicts are gaining new life.
Donald Trump’s trade strategy, known for its confrontational approach, is making a comeback on the international stage, and this time it is the EU in the crosshairs.
American Pressure Before the Paris Meeting
Sources report to the Financial Times that today, the USA will deliver a clear message to the EU’s Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic: Drop your current tariffs on American goods, or we escalate the conflict.
It is the American negotiator Jamieson Greer who is leading the charge, and he is expected to demand that the EU unilaterally lowers tariffs as a precondition for the USA even considering removing its own punitive 20 percent tariffs on European goods.

Ceasefire with an Expiration
Currently, a formal 90-day ceasefire in the tariff conflict is in place. However, despite the pause, the USA still maintains ten percent punitive tariffs on European goods, and tariffs on steel, aluminum, and car parts have not been eased.
The threat of additional tariffs on pharmaceuticals, microchips, and other strategically important products is also looming.
Counterattack Prepared
The EU does not intend to be threatened without consequence. Plans are ready in the background to reintroduce punitive tariffs worth 23 billion euros and additional sanctions worth 95 billion euros that can target selected American products with surgical precision.
