Top Figure in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Killed by Israeli Missile
Israel eliminates another Iranian leader.
In an escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran, Israeli authorities announced on Saturday that a high-ranking commander from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Saeed Izadi, has been killed in an Israeli missile strike.
Izadi, who led the Quds Force’s Palestine Corps, was killed in a targeted strike on an apartment in the Iranian city of Qom.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, describes the killing as a significant victory for both the intelligence services and the Israeli military.
“This is a major breakthrough for Israeli intelligence and a clear message to our enemies that no one supporting attacks on Israel is beyond our reach,” Katz stated according to Reuters.
Izadi was an experienced leader who, according to Israel, was responsible for financing and arming Hamas in connection with the extensive attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to an escalation of the ongoing conflict.
Iranian authorities have yet to officially confirm the loss of Izadi, but Iranian media reports extensive damage following the Israeli missile strike in Qom, where several people were reportedly killed and injured.
Tensions between Israel and Iran continue to grow, with both sides intensifying missile strikes against each other.
The Israeli government maintains that their strikes will not cease until Iran’s nuclear program and missile capabilities, which the country perceives as an existential threat, are dismantled.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi demands that missile strikes stop as a condition for resuming diplomatic negotiations.
“We cannot sit at the negotiation table while our citizens are being attacked with missiles. If progress is to be made, the aggressions must stop,” Araqchi stated from Istanbul, where he is attending a meeting with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
This development marks a serious escalation in the conflict between the two regional powers and raises international concern about where the situation could lead.
