After 12 days of intense fighting between Israel and Iran, a ceasefire is now officially in effect.

The American President, Donald Trump, warned both parties in strong terms to abide by the agreement which was declared following complex diplomatic negotiations.

However, even as the ceasefire was supposed to take effect, explosions were heard in Israel. Iranian missiles hit the city of Beersheba, and according to Israel’s national ambulance service, at least four people were killed.

This occurred just hours after Trump had declared a gradual end to the conflict.

A Critical Moment for Peace

President Trump expressed hope for peace but was clear in his warning to both countries: “The ceasefire is now in effect. Do not breach it!” he wrote on his Truth Social profile.

Iran’s semi-official news agency SNN confirmed that the last missiles were fired just before the truce began.

However, Iran also emphasized that further military operations would depend on Israel’s behavior.

If Israel stops its illegal aggression, Iran has no intention to continue military actions,” said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

A Crucial Hour for a Fragile Agreement

The ceasefire was agreed upon after extensive international mediation, with Qatar as the key mediator.

This occurred after massive U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which were intended by the U.S. to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Iran’s government denies having intentions for nuclear weapons, but the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has previously questioned the possibility of denying Iran access to nuclear arms.

The World Watches the Region Closely

With the ceasefire in place, the global community is watching the situation closely.

A senior official from the White House stated that the Trump administration had been in close dialogue with both Israeli and Iranian officials throughout the conflict.

President Trump referred to the recent crisis as a “12-day war” and added commendably: “I would like to congratulate both Israel and Iran for the stamina, courage, and intelligence they have shown in ending this conflict.
