Tragedy at Gaza Water Tank: Israeli Military Admits Deadly Drone Error
Civilians were waiting for water when a missile struck, killing six children.
A devastating error by the Israeli military claimed the lives of at least 10 civilians on Sunday—including six children—when a drone strike hit a group of people waiting to fill water containers in central Gaza.
The victims were gathered at a water tank in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp. Witnesses described a scene of horror as a drone suddenly launched a missile at the crowd.
“A Technical Malfunction,” Says Israeli Military
In a rare admission, the Israeli military confirmed that the strike was the result of a technical error. The missile, intended for a militant from Islamic Jihad, veered off course and detonated several meters away, hitting civilians instead.
“We deeply regret this incident,” the army said in an official statement. “We strive to minimize civilian casualties as much as possible and are profoundly saddened by any loss of innocent life.”

Indescribable grief in Gaza
The strike has fueled outrage and despair in Gaza, where residents are already grappling with widespread destruction and critical shortages of food, water, and medicine.
Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat reported receiving the bodies of the 10 deceased, along with 16 injured victims—seven of them children. Harrowing videos from the scene show people sobbing in the streets, frantically tending to the wounded, and carrying lifeless children away from the site.
Humanitarian organizations warn that such incidents are becoming alarmingly frequent. The International Committee of the Red Cross reported that its field hospital in Rafah has treated more mass-casualty victims in the past six weeks than during the entire previous year combined.
