During a press conference at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, Donald Trump publicly acknowledged for the first time that there is a genuine hunger catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.

The American president directly addressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urging him to ensure that “every single bite of food” reaches the Palestinian territory.

The statement followed mounting international pressure and repeated reports from the UN and humanitarian organizations about famine in Gaza due to Israel’s strict blockade. President Trump notably contradicted Netanyahu, who had previously denied that Israel was causing hunger in Gaza and labeled such accusations a “blatant lie.”

“I see it on TV—the children are truly starving. This is real hunger, and that cannot be faked,” Trump said, promising that the U.S. would step up efforts to deliver food supplies to Gaza’s civilian population.

International Pressure Mounts on Trump and Netanyahu

In talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the golf resort, Trump was confronted with the issue directly.

According to British government sources, Starmer privately pushed Trump for immediate action.

Starmer, who traveled to Scotland specifically to meet Trump, later described the situation in Gaza as an “absolute catastrophe” that demands an immediate ceasefire.

“We can save many lives—especially the children. It is unacceptable that food isn’t getting through,” Trump said, also directing a direct appeal at Netanyahu:

We provide funding, we send food—but we are far away. I want Netanyahu to ensure they actually receive the food.”

Protests and Escalation of the Humanitarian Crisis

Trump’s visit to Scotland was met with angry protests against both his policies and Israel’s handling of the Gaza situation.

More than a hundred demonstrators in the nearby town of Balmedie waved Palestinian flags and shouted that Trump was not welcome.

The protestors expressed particular outrage at what they described as the United States’ lack of action in response to the acute humanitarian crisis.

Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza has become even more desperate. The United Nations food agency reported Monday that all 55 aid trucks were looted by hungry people before the supplies could reach the organization’s warehouses.

Recent Israeli measures allowing limited, temporary aid convoys have been deemed insufficient by relief organizations.

Trump’s Policy Shift Increases Pressure on Israel

Trump’s acknowledgment of the crisis in Gaza marks a significant shift from his previous, more unconditional support for Netanyahu. His public criticism of Israel indicates that Trump now wants a quicker resolution to the crisis.

The American president also announced that the U.S. and its allies would establish “walk-in” food centers in the region—a concrete step that demonstrates Trump believes the situation now demands action as well as words.
