A rare sight in Polish airspace

Local aviation spotters were the first to notice the dark silhouettes over Poland: Ukrainian UH-60A Black Hawk helicopters. Confirmation quickly followed from the Polish defense media outlet Defence24.

According to sources, these helicopters belong to the Ukrainian intelligence service (DIU). Their distinctive markings identified them as units subordinate to Ukraine’s military intelligence.

Official Silence – But Confirmed Cooperation

A spokesperson from the Polish Operational Command emphasized that the flight took place with Poland’s consent:

“The operation was coordinated. But its purpose and nature remain classified.”

This leaves the public without answers as to why the helicopters crossed the border – or even whether they have returned to Ukraine.

DIU’s Black Hawks – Rare and Enigmatic

Ukraine has only two Black Hawks, both operated by the DIU. The first was registered in February 2023 and originated from the U.S. company Ace Aeronautics. The second appeared in 2024, but its origins remain mysterious.

Additionally, the Czech citizen initiative Dárek pro Putina is raising funds to acquire a third Black Hawk for Ukraine’s intelligence service.

A Flight Full of Unanswered Questions

The final destination of the mission is unknown. Some military experts suggest it was a training flight, while others speculate about covert cooperation between Ukraine and NATO partners.

Regardless of the explanation, the flight marks a symbolic moment in the war: Ukraine’s intelligence now flies alongside Poland – but its exact purpose remains a secret.
