Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected Russia’s proposal for a three-day ceasefire around May 9. He dismissed the offer as a symbolic gesture that fails to deliver real solutions and instead proposed a one-month halt to hostilities—a move he says aligns with American goals.

“Why a 30-day ceasefire? Because it’s impossible to reach any agreements in three, five, or even seven days,” he told reporters on Saturday.

Skepticism Over Russia’s Parade Pause

The Russian proposal coincided with Moscow’s annual Victory Day parade, but Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine cannot guarantee the safety of foreign guests on Russian soil. He fears the Kremlin could exploit any incident to blame Ukraine, calling the ceasefire plan an attempt to appear cooperative without making meaningful changes.

Kharkiv Attacks and a Call to Action

At the same time, Russian airstrikes hit Kharkiv, injuring at least 47 people and causing widespread damage to the city’s infrastructure. Zelenskyy used the moment to once again appeal to Western allies:

“While the world hesitates with decisions, nearly every night in Ukraine turns into a nightmare, costing lives.”

Drones and Missiles on Both Fronts

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 183 drones, many of which were shot down or electronically jammed. Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have intercepted a large number of Ukrainian drone and missile attacks.

The fighting continues to escalate, while a genuine ceasefire remains unresolved.
