Substantial Support

Italy is now preparing its eleventh military aid package for Ukraine, and it promises to be one of the most significant yet.

According to the Italian media outlet il Giornale, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has presented the package to the parliamentary committee for public security. It includes no less than 400 armored personnel carriers of the M113 type in the Italian VCC-2 version.

These vehicles are an evolution of the American M113A1, already in use in Ukraine.

The VCC-2 has undergone significant upgrades, including additional 6 mm armor plates on the sides, two firing ports, and two armored observation windows, making them suitable for frontline combat.

An open machine gun turret further ensures increased visibility and flexibility for the gunners.

Greater Capacity, Greater Impact

The package is not only large in numbers but also technologically ambitious.

In addition to the armored vehicles, it includes a satellite-based surveillance system to enhance Ukraine’s ability to plan and coordinate reconnaissance operations.

”It’s about giving Ukraine the tools to anticipate and act promptly, not just react,” anonymous government sources told il Giornale.

Italy has previously delivered VCC-2 vehicles to Ukraine but never to this extent.

With up to 1,200 modernized units in stock, the country has the capacity to continually support Ukrainian forces without compromising its own defense capabilities.

A Strategic Signal

This aid package sends a clear signal about Italy’s position in the European security architecture.

As more countries ramp up their contributions, Rome establishes itself as a strategic partner with both material and enthusiasm.
