German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadefull recently spearheaded a significant expansion of the country’s support to Ukraine during an official visit to Kyiv, where he delivered a large donation of vehicles for use by Ukraine’s national security forces.

The donation, which includes both heavy and light military vehicles, marks another step in German-Ukrainian cooperation amid ongoing Russian aggression.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the national border guards received 65 used Mercedes Unimog trucks, while the national guard was awarded 10 brand-new Volkswagen Amarok pickups.

The vehicles are primarily intended for logistical tasks and support for mobile fire units, which are involved in protecting the civilian population and critical infrastructure.

This is not the first time Berlin has contributed equipment and material to Ukraine, but this delivery holds special significance according to Julian Röpke from the German newspaper BILD, as it combines robust off-road logistics with flexible frontline response vehicles.

During his visit, Wadefull emphasized that Germany’s support for Ukraine is “unwavering,” and that the country will continue to provide both material and political backing.

The donation comes at a time when Ukraine is ramping up its efforts to strengthen both military and civilian preparedness in areas still threatened by Russian attacks.

With the new equipment package, Ukrainian authorities hope to address future challenges with greater agility and resilience – and thereby more effectively secure both territory and civilian populations.
