The goal is clear: a massive offensive in the densely populated neighborhoods of Gaza City—the heart of Hamas’s last stronghold in the north.

Gaza City: Last Bastion and a Trap for Civilians

In Zeitoun and the Jabaliya refugee camp, Israeli forces are preparing to advance. Here, tens of thousands of civilians are trapped between bombs and starvation. The UN warns of a population on the verge of collapse—without food, medicine, or hope.

Many are not staying by choice, but out of fear that fleeing could be even more dangerous.
“What we are seeing in Gaza is nothing short of an apocalyptic reality,” says Ahmed Alhendawi from Save the Children.

The upcoming offensive is particularly targeting Hamas’s tunnel system—a network still used for attacks and smuggling. Israeli sources claim that Hamas is trying to reorganize and continues to fire rockets.

Reservists in Uproar: “We Are Exhausted and Questioning”

The mobilization is the largest in months—but it is dividing Israeli society from within. Reservists and veterans are complaining of broken families, threatened businesses, and an increasing sense of futility.

Former fighter pilot Guy Poran describes the situation as “a combination of exhaustion and uncertainty.”

At the same time, the families of the hostages—the last 50, of whom 20 are believed to be alive—are demanding a ceasefire. They fear that a new offensive will cost the hostages their lives.

Protests are obvious in the streets: ultra-Orthodox Jews are demonstrating against conscription in Bnei Brak, while hundreds of thousands in Tel Aviv are calling for peace.

Ceasefire Talks at a Deadlock

Hamas has accepted a 60-day ceasefire proposed by Arab mediators. But Israel’s response is still pending. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeats that the war will only end when Hamas is completely crushed—meaning the offensive is being accelerated.

Meanwhile, the government has approved a new settlement project in the E1 area east of Jerusalem. International critics call it a death blow to hopes for a Palestinian state.

Gaza Sinks Deeper

On Wednesday, at least 27 people were killed when a crowd near an aid convoy was fired upon. The death toll in Gaza is now over 62,000—half of them women and children, according to local sources.

Health authorities report a rising number of deaths due to starvation: 154 adults and 112 children have died from malnutrition since June.

The War’s Darkest Chapters Ahead

Everything indicates that the next phase of the Gaza war will be the bloodiest yet. And amid a storm of political decisions and military strategies, the civilian population is just trying to survive—breath by breath.
