Donald Trump has raised his overall approval rating to 45 percent in the first quarter of his second term – up from 41 percent in his first term, according to a new Gallup survey.

Still, doubts about his economic abilities remain significant.

His trade policy, in particular, has drawn attention.

A new 10 percent base tariff on virtually all imported goods and higher tariff rates for certain countries have unsettled stock markets and sparked renewed fears of a recession.

Low Confidence in Economic Leadership

Confidence in Trump’s economic judgment is low: Only 30 percent express “a great deal of confidence,” while 44 percent say they have “almost no confidence.” According to Gallup, however, this is still higher than the trust placed in other political leaders in Washington.

Support follows clear partisan lines. A full 89 percent of Republicans back Trump’s economic agenda, while only 8 percent of Democrats do the same. Skepticism among independent voters is growing.

Although Trump is showing progress in his overall approval, it’s clear that the economy remains his biggest challenge.

Trump himself thanked supporters on Truth Social.
