U.S. Approves $2.19 Billion Sale of 163 Tomahawk Block V Missiles to the Netherlands
The U.S. State Department has greenlit a major arms sale to the Netherlands, including Tomahawk missiles, spare parts, and logistical support, bolstering the Dutch Navy’s modernization efforts.
The U.S. Department of State has approved the sale of 163 Tomahawk Block V cruise missiles to the Netherlands, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
The deal, valued at approximately $2.19 billion, also includes spare parts, satellite equipment, and logistical support.
Modernization and Test Launch
As part of the Navy’s modernization efforts, eight additional launch cells are being installed on the De Zeven Provinciën-class frigates.
To confirm integration, HNLMS De Ruyter (F804) successfully conducted a test launch off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia, on March 11, 2025.
The Dutch Ministry of Defense describes the launch as “an important milestone in the modernization of our maritime forces.”
Tomahawk Block V: High Precision and Long Range
The Tomahawk Block V missile, developed by Raytheon, can strike targets over 1,600 kilometers (roughly 1,000 miles) away with an accuracy of 5–10 meters.
Thanks to advanced navigation systems, the missile can even change targets mid-flight and transmit strike data back to base.
With this investment, the Netherlands ensures a modern and effective maritime combat capability for future challenges.
