Actor Jonathan Joss, whose distinctive voice brought the character John Redcorn to life in the iconic animated series King of the Hill, was fatally shot over the weekend in San Antonio, Texas. He was 59.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, Joss was shot and found by the roadside on Dorsey Drive Saturday evening around 7 p.m.

Officers attempted life-saving measures, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead shortly after by emergency personnel.

A 56-year-old man, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been arrested and charged with murder. Police have not yet released further details regarding the motive behind the shooting.

Jonathan Joss—whose full name was Jonathan Joss Gonzales—took over the role of John Redcorn following the death of original voice actor Victor Aaron.

With his deep voice and calm presence, Joss became a core part of the cult-classic Fox series, which ran for more than a decade.

His talent extended far beyond animation. He was also known for his role as Ken Hotate in the comedy series Parks and Recreation and made notable appearances in Tulsa King as well as the star-studded 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven.

“He had a rare ability to make characters feel both powerful and vulnerable, and he carried his cultural heritage with pride in every role he took on,” said a former colleague.
